Because God is already at work in our world, including our children’s lives, we want to join Him in that work. Prayer is a way to influence their lives even when our words seemingly are no longer heard. Letting them hear us pray is another way to influence them. That must be done carefully—perhaps with permission–so that they don’t feel every concern they express to us as parents is labored over or shared with “Mom’s Bible Study Group.” Remember they take themselves far too seriously sometimes and the hard part is in knowing when that is!
If your child is not a Christian, or has friends who are not Christians, pray this for them. (Insert your child’s name in the underlined places.)
God, because the god of this age has blinded the mind of my child who does not believe in you, I ask that you remove anything that covers the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. Shine the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in my child’s heart.
2 Corinthians 4:4-6
